On Friday, March 2, 2007, all the residents of Tres Palmas colonia, which is located on the outskirts of Mazatlan at the foot of the city dump, were evicted from their homes and re-located a few miles up the road toward Mazatlan, in a colonia called Loma Bonita. What served as a temporary community center in 2007 has been replaced by a new community center. LaVina ministry to the Loma Bonita residents is under the leadership of Oralia Collom. She has built up the program to include a library, separate classes for three age groups, an active adult Bible Study and weekly feedings. They also receive regular clothing deliveries and, for the upcoming “Day of the Child”, teddies, toys, crayons and scribblers will be distributed.
